Diagram to fit a cigarette lighter in a work boat with a car battery. How do I do? I want to put a cigarette lighter in my boat so I can connect a Garmin GPS navigator 12. This way I can use the car battery instead of 4 boats AA batteries that I constantly have to replace (only 24 hours of power). I could have the GPS running constantly backup. I need a simple diagram on how to integrate the cigar lighter socket or simple instructions. Nothing too technical or you lose me.
red wire to the + black wire to the terminal -
Do what your answering anonymous said: + ve (red) to the middle connector and-ve (black or brown) on the external connector.
When you buy a kit of a new socket accessories store, you'll probably line fuse supplied. Make sure you use it. Connect to + ve line. If you do not have a fuse supplied please go buy one. They are readily available from car accessory shops for a couple of quid. You need a maximum rating of 10 amps, preferably 5 or 8amp. It could save your boat from a fire, if a problem occurs and you avoid problems insurance company.
Unless you have a hole near to adapt you will also need a "dashboard under" mounting plate (right store your accessories again).
line of the fifth wire to common ground of your boat, or take it to the terminal diectly-Fri.
Wire + ve line (via fuse) to a + ve circuit which is controlled by the ignition switch and other accessories. Use a connector Scotchlock if you need (you can connect to an existing wire without cutting or stripping one of them, cheap buy from your shop accessories).
If you can not find a voltage + ve line of accessories, you should take your new wire directly to the + ve battery.
If you do this, you must install a fuse and be very careful not to short-circuit the battery. In fact, I recommend you also provide a switch line (accessory shop again just a pound or two) that can turn the thing off in case of trouble.
Finally, make sure you absoluteley firmly mounted in a socket yoru protected against splashing and all your son are well cut for all your partitions and terminals, etc. are very well protected against moisture and condensation. If you do not they corrode very quickly. If your outlet is supplied with a rubber cap, then make sure you use it at your GPS navigator is not plugged in.
If you buy new it should be less tha 15 pounds. Consider this option if you would use something a car for scrap.
red is the + ve to go to the center of the bone cigarette lighter. black is the fifth-to the outside of the socket.
He nails the tank!
AA battery 1.5 volts. give four 6 volt. a car battery is 12 volts. Sat double your supply. If you plug it goes BANG. you need a DC converter DC to abandon the supply of 12 volts to the voltage of 6 required. Maplin or Radio Shack will sell you one with instructions.
