Experienced cigar enthusiasts know well the pleasures of a well-aged cigar. The subtle flavors and complex constitution of a well-aged cigar is indescribably and unforgettable. Like wine, many cigar aficionados swear by the aging process. A great cigar, the argument goes, is an old one. How can you achieve a well-aged cigar that provides the mellow, complex flavors of your dreams? You can always forks over much of your money and buy a box of cigars expensive vintage. If you prefer to save money and the experience of aging on your own, here are some tips to help you get started.

First, remember that you must be patient if you want a cigar properly years. You have to age your cigars for about a year to achieve the flavors and complex subtleties of a well-aged cigar. Also, be aware that in order achieve the rewards of a properly aged cigar, you must start the process with a quality cigar. If you try to age a lower quality cigar, chances are any amount of aging does not significantly improve their flavor. Many high quality cigars that you find too strong or odorous are perfect candidates for the elderly. In fact, almost all high quality cigars can be improved by the aging process.

To age your cigars, buy a good quality humidor. Cigars should be stored in a constant and stable. Follow the rules 70-70. This means that the humidity should be at a constant humidity of 70% and a temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Of course, the environment in which they are stored is crucial. Follow the usual 70-70 rules for the temperature and humidity. More and your cigars will get moldy, no less and the aging process begins to be stunted. Maintaining a stable environment for your cigars is key - a constantly fluctuation can be disastrous. Swings in temperature and humidity because of cigars expand and contract, cracking their packaging and it may disrupt the aging process. Ideally, the space in the cellar should be about twice the volume of cigars. The coating should be cedar - cedar wood is very aromatic, full of its own oils. With the passage of time, the interaction of the tobacco oils them, and with oil from cedar wood leads to a maturation and blending of flavors resulting in that subtle complexity you can get good aging.
