Gouda Pottery

My sister recently attended an event SCA and returned saying she wanted to get the painting on silk. She also said she wanted to paint on Gouda, saying she did not speak the cheese. Apart from the name of a type of Dutch pottery, I can not find something called Gouda used for painting, but the way she talks it seems like a kind of artist's canvas. Is it really a painting of that name?
