MarketplaceGrocery Delivery TexasPosted on February 6, 2010. How Smart is Your Texas Energy Smart Meter Sitting on my couch one day, patiently trying to get some sleep, I just happened to look out my window and scared of death. I see a tall man trying to hip above my door with a special scale designed for the steeplechase! If unlimited movies thriller taught me anything, it is not to go investigate the mine. So what do I do? I go investigate, with the baby in tow. It's funny, the idea of calling the cops or at least take Mace never entered my mind. Fortunately, the man was not there to kidnap or kill me, he did his work for CenterPoint, the installation of smart meters. Apparently he had been on all the jumps fence and installation of these meters all around my neighborhood. In a state where anyone can own a gun, it looks like a very risky profession for me. It's funny because if I had not broken the guy installing the meter, I never knew that something had changed and I bet most people still do not. I do not say there was no notice, I'm sure there was, but really reads these opinions by mail? Anyway, now that we have this new feature on our house, I thought it would be important to understand what the heck he is doing and why CenterPoint felt the need to install all these houses world. In the past, all businesses and households in Texas is necessary to have an electric meter on their property. The reason is pretty obvious, is to ensure that there is a precise and consistent way to measure the electricity into your home and / or business each month. This is useful both for us, customers and utilities, because it allows a more accurate bill each month. And so far, that's all the meter has been designed to do, interestingly enough, it was the same way for about 50 years. But because we live in a world where new technologies is still being developed, one meter more interactive and "intelligent" was created not only to help the consumer, but to help utilities and companies electric delivery as well. Something I would like to point out before continuing are the companies that distribute electricity distribution companies are called electricity. Another name for them is TDSP (I have no idea where they got that acronym but nevertheless this is what they are known in the industry). These companies are responsible for many things. They install and maintain the meters, poles and transmission lines. They are also those who actually provide the power to the companies retail where you get your power. An example of this type of company is CenterPoint Energy in Houston and Dallas Oncor. These companies are completely separate from the company you pay your bill each month, which are called in industry retail electricity suppliers, often called the EPR (the acronym is a much more). This may clear up any confusion some may have - I can not tell you how many people have told me in conversation that they pay their electricity bills CenterPoint. I think it's because few people know the difference between the two companies. On the road. Since the meter has basically remained the same over the past 50 years, it was definitely time for an upgrade. Today, we have access to information so much, it's almost scary. Like when I was pregnant, so we saw our ultrasound - the brain, four ventricles of the heart's blood flow in and out of the umbilical cord, and so on, we have seen. It was wonderful and scary at the same time, and very advanced age of 50. My point is that, given our technological advances, it is surprising that something like an electric meter has not changed so far. Smart meters will continue to measure your electricity consumption, but it will also send information back upstream to allow CenterPoint, the REPS, and you, the consumer, make better decisions. I like.
