Cooking for yourself: why and how

So why not get off the couch and into the kitchen again? Bring your favorite meats, vegetables, fruits, spices ... , and try these strategies to get inspired.

1. Stock your kitchen

It is useful to have the basic ingredients on hand. Be sure to have the most common spices (basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, sea salt and pepper, to begin with) in your closet, and canned tomatoes, beans, vinegars and oils. Buy the onions, garlic and potatoes to come because they keep well. And keep your freezer full of good quality meat and vegetables you want, such as organic chicken breasts, steaks, organic chopped spinach and corn.

2. Make it a part

Cook tasks with friends or family members whenever possible, give everyone different. Kids love jobs like peeling garlic cheese or networks, and even the more reluctant leader must be willing to cut a vegetable or two. Put on some music, pour a little wine ... everything that makes cooking fun and festive ordinary week.

3. Splurge a little

Cooking at home can save you a lot of money over time, especially if you have the habit of eating meals in the restaurant lot. So, if you transfer to the kitchen from scratch, do not be afraid to invest in very good ingredients - you'll see the difference! A sirloin steak well fed grass did not need much except salt and pepper, and fresh spring mix of farmer's market can taste delicious with just a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. In general, the higher the quality, the less work you need to do in the kitchen.

4. Find recipes that fit your lifestyle

If you usually only 30 or minutes to prepare dinner in the evening, you do not want to deal with a two-page recipe for authentic Italian lasagna. Buy a book of recipes that focus on a few cooking everyday home chefs. And online research in places like Epicurious site, which allow you to filter "easy" recipes.
