Milk ProcessingThe economic empowerment of small and medium bovine Farmer by the creation of cooperatives of milk in Kosovo

The economic empowerment of small and medium bovine Farmer by the Centre of milk cooperatives in Kosovo.

It is an accepted fact that the dairy industry in Kosovo is still embryonic and require concerted efforts to organize this untapped resource so that it leads to economic empowerment of the owner of the animal to small and medium.
Clear evidence of what is perceived when we go to a store to Kosovo. Tetra-packed milk imported from Slovenija, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia etc. adorn the shelves of retailers. Considering the favorable climatic conditions and the presence of appropriate breeds in Kosovo, there is no reason why this country should not become a major player in the regional dairy industry. Kosovo has the inherent ability to restore not only to consumers of local milk, but can also export its products.
Most farmers had one or two cows and some have up to four cows. These small farmers use milk obtained their own domestic purposes and sell the rest for consumers living nearby in bottles.
The very fact that these dairy owners have absolutely no infrastructure resulted in a situation where the sale of milk is illegal and it is not always sure that all milk produced is sold at appropriate prices. Cases of distress sales by less than the market prices are known to have been mainly due to the fact that the farmer does not possess, he can not afford, storage facilities and processing center.
Thus, for the cow owner farmer, the cow is only a means to supplement his income and is not the pillar of his winnings.

The scenario described above leads to economic weakness. Due to the fact that the farmer does not receive a fair price for their product and that its milk does not have a long life, he remained economically weak and must subsist on other ways to feed his family and defend .
It is therefore imperative that eminently a dairy cooperative will be established in Kosovo to achieve the following broad objectives:

- Increase the processing facilities
- To create modern milk supplies
- To develop storage and transport
- Improve the collection of milk
- To improve milk production.

Milk cooperatives in Kosovo would be held by each farmer who is a member and the individual would have a stake in the success of the project. This would lead to greater involvement of all small and medium farmers and therefore would sow the seeds of a future for dairy farmers in Kosovo.
These co-operative milk would have a robust effect on rural development. Small farmers in Kosovo isolated in various parts of the country would have gained the strength to sustain their livelihoods. Cooperatives have provided gainful employment and brought them close to the market. Ideal conditions for growth in the long term procurement have been created.
The ripple effect of this project would also:

- Modern technologies in breeding and feeding is adopted by a significant number of farmers.
- The transformation of modern consumerism and marketing would be established throughout the country.
- The services of technical data, including artificial insemination, and balanced nutrition of cattle / bypass feed protein, feed varieties of better quality and emergency services animal health - would have a direct and hard hitting to raise and maintain milk production and ensure a better quality of life in villages.

Besides the creation of urban employment in dairy plants, marketing, transportation, distribution and ancillary industries, the Dairy Co-opera.
