Probiotic Yogurt Brands

Probiotic Yogurt BrandsLive yogurt culture mixture in milk reduce the effectiveness of probiotics?

My 4 year old son is on antibiotics. He only likes Yoplait yogurts, but I want him to eat the stuff out there that is really full of live cultures, as Activa. The only way I can get him to eat other brands is to make the yogurt smoothies with milk and chocolate syrup. Is this cons-productive?

Things like yogurt and Activa does not guarantee that live microflora reaching the intestines to live, but simply that they were alive at the time of manufacture - many are killed by our stomach acids or no longer living at the time of purchase. It is well documented.

I give my little 4 year old son natural Optiflora. It is a capsule the size BB, which guarantees that 500 million microflora reaches the intestines because of the encapsulation process. Since its so small, it has not had a problem taking it. I told him he had a group of soldiers that get rid of all the evil in his belly. He learned to swallow now, but I used to put a piece of his food.

I know it does not answer your question, but thought my experience might be useful and interest in the site, please contact me.

What you do is not a problem. These bacteria are strains of acidophilils. The name means love acid, these little buggers will have no problem going through the stomach into the intestines. Heck that is how they got there first, we eat them. Continue to do this, it is good for your son with intestinal a good source of calcium.
